The much-covered Motown legend, whose hits include: ‘Superstition’, ‘Sir Duke’, ‘Lately’, ‘Higher Ground’, ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ (in fact, the list is almost endless) will play Birmingham’s NIA, Manchester’s Evening News Arena and London’s O2 Arena on the 8th, 9th and 11th September respectively. Speaking at a press conference yesterday in London’s Hard Rock Café about rumours that he will also appear at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday tribute concert in Hyde Park, he said:
If we can work it out time-wise I'd love to do it. It's always great to perform and celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela.
How likely it is – given that his US schedule sees him play two dates either side of the 46664 concert, which takes place on 27th June – and that there is no longer a supersonic transatlantic crossing – is another matter entirely.
